WELCOME TO DANE'S FRIENDS FOR FIRST, 2015
Thank you for joining us for the 4th Dane's Friends for FIRST Concert. We are honored by your presence tonight. Our family is blessed by this opportunity to celebrate the memory of our son, Dane Christian Phelps, while educating others about his otherwise little-known condition. Thank you for making this possible.
The Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types (FIRST) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families affected by ichthyosis, a group of rare genetic skin disorders that affect more than 16,000 babies each year. The condition is characterized by very dry, cracked, scaling and thickened skin. In addition to the medical implications, ichthyosis is a very visible condition. Affected individuals must also handle the psychological factors attributed to their appearance.
As members of FIRST and parents of a child who lost his life due to the severity of his condition, wer are committed to supporting programs for affected individuals and their families. Our prayer is that funding raised will support research and lead to better treatments and eventual cures. The goals of this event are to raise awareness for rare skin disorders and to raise funds for FIRST. Dane was affected with and suffered terribly from ichthyosis, yet his spirit was beautiful. We want to spare others the heartache we have experienced. Our loss is immeasurable, but our greatest joy is in knowing that Dane's life can still make a difference for others.
The performers have gathered here tonight to share their God-given talents to help families around the world who are battling rare skin disorders. We are also grateful for all of the 'behind the scenes' work that has been done to make this event possible. Dane has taught us that every life is precious, and every life has meaning and purpose long after our days here on earth are finished. God bless our little Dane, our ever present light, our little boy who now has everything in heaven.
